Learning to focus
May I be limited sometimes
So I learn my boundary well,
May I be humble
So I may see true greatness,
May I see my lack and fill it with sincerity,
Not pride.
May I be lifted up by those who can teach me.
May I see the flaws in my examples
Without shame or hatefulness-
And mend my own fences;
Apply vinegar to my own glass windows
And
May I love.
May I learn a bigger truth;
May I share it with a listener who doesn’t resent that I formerly had smaller ears than now,
And buckets with holes; the wisdom slipped through and was gone.
But now, I have sturdy sacks with ties.
May I have older sisters to push me off little cliffs toward bravery.
May I learn to stand in shouting crowds quietly.
May I in this way earn
A little moment
To share what I have learned
With you.
